Mega Blogs
Here are some blogs I consider to be rated ‘A plus.’ The following have extensive information on a broad range of topics.
Chris in South Korea – this is an excellent source of information on all aspects of Korean life but is especially useful for travel info and photography. In addition, Chris seems like a particularly charming and pleasant chap who keeps himself extremely busy. Besides researching, managing and writing his blog, he has also written a book, Korean Made Easy. Click here to see Chris being interviewed.
Eat Your Kimchi – probably the most well-known and amusing vlog series in Korea. Produced by Simon and Martina, it’s highly entertaining if not a little wacky!
Kiss my Kimchi – by Brian Dye. A great range of information in a sleek and refreshing format.
Monster Island this is a well established blog with an expansive repertoire.
Quiranger – a massive selection of well produced and informative video on the vlog of Steve Miller.
Roboseyo -I never liked the title but you certainly don’t forget it! Written by Robert Ouwehand, this is an extensive source of information on many aspects of life in South Korea. Great photos!
The Grand Narrative – A Korean Gender Reader – by James Turnbull. A sociological blog with a massive readership. Extensive and in-depth
The Marmot’s Hole – another extensive blog by Robert Koehler and is cited by Wikipedia as being the most widely read expat blog on the peninsula. An excellent source of information on travel, culture, contemporary social issues, politics and more.
For Korean cooking:
Maangchi - I love her site, I love her accent and I love her recipes. In my opinion she is the queen of Korean cookery blogs.
BLOGS I FOLLOWED THAT HAVE ‘MOVED OUT’
Supplanter - maybe it’s the fact that ‘Mr Supplanter’ is a fellow Brit that I felt drawn to spend an hour trawling his site when I should have been in bed. I have found myself re-reading a number of his posts. Not all his writing is on Korea which is refreshing. Supplanter doesn’t post on a regular basis but when he does his work can be very amusing.
IN MEMORIAM
An Idiots’ Tale – This blog, one of the most entertaining and also a pain in the arse to many readers, ceased publishing in 2010 and for a while was at South Korea Times. However, this is now defunct. RIP and thank-you!
